Dalla Terra Wine Tasting
Saturday, July 19th, 4 to 7pm
DallaTerra Winery Direct is changing the nature of the wine importing and distribution business. "Winery Direct" is the mantra - a more efficient way of marketing wine. It bypasses the national importer level in the traditional three-tier system allowing Dalla Terra to put a bottle of wine on the table for significantly less than a national importer.
Rob Forman, who is the only representative from Dalla Terra imports in the northeast, will be hosting this tasting. We get to see him once every two years if we're lucky. We'll also have Peter Lacasse of Classic wines, to guide you through these wonderful wines.
If you're a fan of Italian wines you're not going to want to miss this tasting. If you're not, maybe you haven't tried the right wines. Now's your chance!

Ayinger Ur-Weisse Beer Tasting
Friday, July 18th, 5 to 8pm
Many "summer" beers are wheat beers since they're light and refreshing. Ayinger has a particularly good Dunkelweizen, or dark wheat beer, called Ur-Weisse. We're going to check it out this week.
In the words of BeerAdvocate, "Crisp and smooth with an assertive carbonation, a soft wheat flavour and mouth feel hold the medium body together. Pretty much on the dry side with lots of fruit character (apples and banana), a rounded tartness and a clove like spicy flavour helps to balance a little. Hops are virtually invisible. A long dry semi grainy finish helps to wrap this brew up. One of the better imported dunkel hefe-wezien."
If you want the real deal, not someone else's best attempt at replicating, taste this true Bavarian wheat beer from one of the world's top brewers, Brauerei Aying.

Nick's Wine Corner
This week's selections:
Anne Amie 2006 Cuvée Amrita - $14.99
This Oregonian wine is filled with aromas of pineapple, honeysuckle, and wildflowers. The palate is just off-dry with sweet fruit on the front, braced by zesty acidity and dry finish. Its juicy, fresh, bright flavors make this great with Asian foods.
Casa de la Ermita 2005 Monastrell - $11.99
Opici Wine Imports is most well- known for their Italian selection, but they also have a marvelous Spanish portfolio as well. This red is perhaps the best value Monastrell on the planet. Bold words, I know, but wait 'til you try it. A bang for the buck! Works with grilled chicken, ham, and duck confit.
